Been whiling away late winter doing trial germination in damp paper towels of old seed packets. 4year old beans germinated just fine! actually they all have, so far. Hmmm. Should this discourage me from getting shiny new toys for a small garden space? Hmmm

In New Mexico since December, 6,000' elev. so whole new set of challenges. Growing greens under gro-lights, will try putting them out next month with frost cloth. Local sourced pepper and tomato seeds to try in late April. Also trying some Ukrainian varieties I stumbled onto online! ( https://us.nikitovka.com/en/ if you're interested).

I've gone a little overboard with tomatoes this year. I've grown two tiger blush plants that are turning into good producers, and I have two purple galaxies that make really beautiful tomatoes. The seeds came from Baker Creek. I recently bought a mortgage lifter and big rainbow seedlings from a nursery and the mortgage is growing fast. Then I bought Korean long tomato seeds from Baker but haven't sown them yet.

Squash/zucchini borer may be easily prevented by using white glue, diatomecious earth and water. Mix them well, and apply like paint on stems especially close to soil

Best zucchini is Costata Romanesco. Plant a second crop near the end of June to miss the squash bug life cycle.

Good growing!

My seed order arrived two days ago & I was so excited! I use a supplier who specialise in growing organic heritage varieties suitable for the (often very damp) Welsh climate. I solarised a new bed over winter & am going to experiment with hugelkultur & polycropping.

Loving the contents of your seed order, Boaz. I’m intrigued by the skirret and the tarwi and wondering if I can grow them here in the UK. Oh and your catalogues look just so lovely - the layout and font is beautifully traditional- they don’t them like that here any more…

And those bagels remind me- I must go and make breakfast
