Calligrapher flies just might be my favorite insects. In New Hampshire we have Eastern, Margined, and Maize Calligraphers all with different, tiny, very intricate patterns. I think in Pennsylvania you might have a couple of other Calligraphers. And Takii's Choice is charming. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, I'll have to look up those other calligraphers. There's always so much to learn!

For some reason my zucchinis are not doing well here in New Mexico but one squash that is thriving is the Trombocino from Italy ("little trombone). They get about as big around as a large cucumber but grow 3 feet long! I prefer the flavor to regular zucchini as well--less bitter and a bit of artichoke flavor. Wish I could post a pic, they're amazing.

I think Fedco seeds sells them. Baker might still. I got mine from Renee's Seeds a couple years ago . Amaze your friends. Lol!

My daughter took over the veggie bed side of our yard (the south side), and has transformed it. She already had ornamental grasses and a red climbing rose in addition to the two beds. She's planted the beds with artichokes, tomatoes, potatoes, and has huge mullein plants as well as lemon balm. She planted more: strawberries in pots, a special bed for peas, hostas, echinacea, lavender, clary sage and more. The echinacea are clary sage are big and beautiful. The entire area is always full of bees and butterflies.

That cucumber twin is wild! I've had four tomatoes fuse together but I've never seen it with a cucumber.

As to variety, they may be pickling, or Kirby, if they're big, and Persian is they are rather small.
